: : First, I thank HHIssues for giving me some very useful URL on the treatment of sensorineural deafness.

: : At the moment, I'm undergoing acupuncture treatments everyday, and find that it's quite helpful.
: : I'm hearing slightly better since then, however, it's still not really clear while wearing hearing aids.
: : Could anyone here tell me about the approximate price of the very powerful Hearing aids in US?

: : I'm a music student major in music performance, and would like to know if anyone with hearing

: *** Dear Yew, I read your 3 messages with interest & have some comments: firstly, have you lost hearing in both ears?Did both ears lose hearing within a short time? Did you have an infection before this happened? What were you given as the cause of this hearing loss? As for cochlear implants: they're apparently successful in the right patients, but expensive, usually done only if the hearing goes right down & can't be aided. As for hearing aids: it's not always a matter of needing more powerful aids, it depends on speech discrimination as well. You may hear loud sounds easily but they may not be clear. Try a digital aid on approval- don't buy it, just ask to try it for a while. As for musicians; this is really traumatic for you as your hearing is vital. Read Vikram Seth's book, "An Equal Music", about a musician going deaf. Apparently there are some deaf musicians- i guess they trained before losing too much hearing. Please reply to me- I'm especially interested in your symptoms when you lost the hearing, & the doctor's view of the cause. Reply here, or e-mail 160luci@atlas.wits.ac.za Go well! Lucille
