: Dear HH Issues,

: My son has moderate to severe hearing loss. Hearing aids helps him a lot. I am interested in some treatments other than hearing aids and cochlear implants. I contacted the chinese Doctor (Qu Quang) several times through emails. He said he can improve my sons hearing, but cannot totally cure it. We are not dared to go to China, as it's hard to understand their accent and also the culture is totally different. I would be glad if we have any treatment here in USA. Please let me know if you know any treatment here, that can totally cure my sons loss.

: Thanks a lot,
: Sirisha.

Sirisha,

Sure, anytime ! While we're at this subject, do you know anything about the research on Hair Cell regeneration ? Hopefully, we have reasons to be optimistic in the long run or even possibly in the near future about such research ? For instance, there this one research whose stated objectives are:

The Goal:

Restore lost hearing by inducing regeneration of the damaged inner ear structures.

The Strategic Objective:

Find the cellular and molecular factors capable of inducing and controlling sensory cell regeneration in the human inner ear.

The Method:

Five collaborative research teams can reach the objective in five to seven years for approximately $10 million. We seek sponsors to underwrite this research initiative.

Perhaps, if more interested parties, companies or organizations throw in more support for such research, it could help speed up its progress ? What do you think ? Go for it !
