: : : I would like to hear form someone who has had a stapedectomy to correct hearing loss due to otosclerosis.
: : : Rita Bryant
: : :Rita, I had the surgery two years ago. Although the surgery helped my hearing, it wasn't corrected as much as I would have liked. I still suffer from ringing in my ears. I would like to see more research done on treatments for head noise, it drives me crazy. I'm not sure what your story is about, but good luck in any choice that you may make concerning your hearing loss.

: Had the surgery 8 years ago and it was well worth the effort. Have reached the point that I
: am considering having it redone. I just had the other ear done and have not recovered from it yet.
: Done with local the first time and with general the last time. So far I think that recovery with the
: general might be slightly faster. I have had ringing in both ears so I do not think the surgery had
: any thing to do with the ringing.
: Tests showed about 85% recovery the first time about two months after the surgery. .
Had the procedure on August18. I had my left ear done and I have regained a good deal of hearing. Recovery was ok, but still have some equilibrium trouble. I have ringing in the ears too, but this is not something that a stapendectomy will correct.
I had a general only because my doctor would not do it any other way.
