: My husband has palpatataions and arithmia and a slow heart rate. The doctors say this is unusual because in order to treat his problem they have to put a pace maker in him and then treat him with beta blockers . He has heard some disturbing reports on the beta blockers and I would like to know if any one else has had side effects from taking them. He willalso be takeing ace inhibiters. Someone has told him it effects his sex drive and as well depression. Is this so?
I was on beta blocker alternol (sp?) from November until May and then put on something stronger called Toprol XL which I still take today. Cardiologist wants me on this for six more months. I'm a 46 year old male and it has not affected my sex drive one bit! And because I do not have the PVCs with the regularity I used to, I have not experienced any depression. Before I took beta blockers I heard some of those things that they affect your sex drive, induce depression, etc. I didn't care at that point. I wanted my PVCs to stop and they have been greatly reduced. No problem here with sex or depression! Good luck to you and your husband...
