: I am a psychologist who had quadruple by-pass surgery three years ago and wrote a book. In my book I describe myself and other heart patients as "tough customers", meaning that we are somewhat distrustful, fearful, angry, or depressed. Since writing my book, I have revised my thinking. I now believe that we heart patients have suffered a kind of "post traumatic stress syndrome" in early childhood. My patients report early experiences which were heart breaking to them, but indicate that they have never revealed these experiences to anyone before. They say that they are too embarrassed or ashamed and that no one would take them seriously. Is this true for you?
