: : I have had pvst for many years (20-30) where my pulse jumps to about 150 for anywhere from a few seconds to several hours (once all night). I can't pin down what precipittes it, maybe sudden unusual activity, sometimes just lying in bed. Starts anytime for no apparent reason. Wondering has anyone had similar problem that has been fixed by ablation or has anyone discovered a sure way of stopping an attack. I wonder about defibrulators(?) or self administrered injections. Usually a very very deep exhale cough will kill it for me but only if I can nip it in the bud. The regular use of valium when needed (ativan) sometimes helps; but no guarantee. Like ideas!

: Alan, I started having exactly what you have in '93 but wasn't diagnosed w/PSVT til '97. It's caused by an extra pahtway in the electrical system of the heart & ablation destroys the abnormal pathway. I ended up in the e.r. I was put on Lopressor, a beta blocker & tambocor, which eliminated the skips in my pulse. Both worked wonders, but Istarted getting extremely vivid dreams from Lopressor, so to make a long story short, I was told different things by different doctors, & by Nov'99 had the catheter ablation. I still take 5 mg of Nadolol every mlorning to keep my pulse from going up ao 150, I think. All lI know is it raced each morning & I couldn't take it anymore. But I had the ablation & please....e-mail me & we'lll chat some more. Karen Russo
