: My father was just informed that he may be a canadate for a new procedure which utilizes a lazer to remove the blockage. The doctor advised that this is a relatively new procedure and is not recommended for everyone. Have you ever heard of this procedure? If so, what are he pros and/or cons?
I am to undergo an angioplasty this coming Friday. My cardiologist said that the laser method was older and he would be doing the balloon angioplasty with a stent to be inserted (if needed.) I understand the laser would just knock the blockage out of the way only to return since the blockage material would just redeposit itself somewhere else in the arteries and since their was no stent the artery would colapse and the blockage would reoccur. In any event, I'm not a doctor and can only pass on what I was told by my doctor when I asked about the differences. Good luck to us both.
