First of all, I acknowledge that everyone has a different biochemical make up, and they react differently to medications and chemicals. But I found that I had significantly less heart flutters, thumps and clicks when I stopped drinking diet cokes made with aspartame. I had been having terrible problems last November with my palpitations, but I went cold-turkey with the diet cokes, and my symptoms practically stopped. In addition, I did research on the internet about aspartame, and sure enough, there are studies that show a correlation between arrhythmias and aspartame. I just wanted to throw this out there, in case it can help someone else.
