My 41 year old, active husband has been diagnosed with having a bicuspid valve with severe aortic regurgitation. He has no symptoms and it was found at a routine exam. His surgery is scheduled for early November. He is very torn about what type of replacement valve to have put in. He is leaning towards the mechanical valve because he doesn't like the idea of going through another surgery but is concerned about being on Coumadin the rest of his life. He likes the thought of having a Homograft put in but has been told that within his lifetime he would need to have it replaced as they have a lifespan of 20-30 years. Can anyone who has been through this, offer any words of wisdom and share their knowledge? Thank you.
