I have two daughters who have had surgery for avnrt. one was four years old and had to have open heart surgery to repair, as the procedure at the time was done with cryosurgery, her heart rate would reach 320 beats a minute several times a day for long periods of time. a few years later her sister was diagnosed with same at about 7 years old, and docs were able to use radiofrequency ablation to repair pathways. She ws found to have 2 pathways which were successfully ablated. Surgery was performed in the morning on one day and we went home with her the following morning. We were very fortunate that both were very successful. As are most of the children who have had this procedure that we have coem to know at the hospital. It was not a difficult procedure for the catheter ablation through the arteries, and everyting is perfect so far. They are now 16 and 18 years old. hope this gives you some support on making your decision.
: : I am 40 and was recently diagnosed. Does anyone have this, and what are you doing to deter the palpitations?
: : I have gone off all caffeine, but don't know what else to do. I am told I should get ablation radiotherapy, yet I only had one episode and this seems so hasty.
: : Has anyone had ablation? I am interested to hear about it from the patient's perspective.
: : thank you.
