: If anyone can help me I would be forever indebted. My nephew and his wife just had their baby delivered by means of a caesarean. The poor little guy had a heart beat of over 300 for the last month in the womb. Mind your through medication they had it down to about 215. He was born a few days ago and by giving the medication directly to the child they managed to get the bpm to 160. Yesterday on 3 different occasions his bpm increased to over 200 again. His poor little body is full of fluid. I think they believe he was close to cardiac arrest. His birth weight. Was 6lbs 1oz. He was 34 weeks. They believe his actualy birth weight is 4lbs 12oz. Does anyone know what they can do to help him. They say that his parents are going to have to recognize the symptoms and administer drugs themselves:(. Thank you so much.
My baby was born at 30 weeks with severe SVT last year. It took a long time to find what medications he would respond to but is now doing great. 80-90% of infants born with SVT outgrow it before their first year. My son is currently being weined from his medication and has not had any SVT related problems in about 8 months. While there are a lot of problems in the beginning, once the heart is back under control the baby usually does fine. We still have to go back every 3 months for checkups but other than that, he is a normal 11 month old. I hope this gives you some peace of mind.
