: I HAVE BEEN TOLD I HAVE PVCS AND SINUS TACH.SHOULD I FIND OUT WHAT CAUSES IT ? IT DRIVES ME INSANE I CAN'T DO ANYTHING EXERCISE OR WHEN I GO TO WORK MY HEART BEATS FAST AND MAKES ME SHAKY AND NERVOUS THEN IT WILL SKIP.I FEAR SO MUCH AND OK I IM STUPID BUT I SMOKE I AM TRYING LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT TO STOP.ITS NOT MY THYROID I WAS TOLD I HAVE ANXIETY AND I HAVE ACID REFLUX I TAKE METAPROLOL XANAX AND PREVACID. DO ANY OF THESE DRUGS MAKE THEM WORSE? DO THE PVCS PACS AND SINUS TACH MEAN SOMETHING WORSE CAN HAPPEN? I HAVE BEEN ON THESE DRUGS FOR 4 YRS PLEAS HELP

All the drugs prescribed are designed to help you.

Metaprolol is a beta blocker which will help to slow down the rapid heart rate and help with the PVC's, but it is no cure all.

Xanax is a tranquilizer to help calm you down.

Prevacid is to help with the acid reflux.

That said, there are certain things you should avoid which can aggrevate your situation. These are caffeine (examples, regular coffee, tea and chocolate), alcoholic beverages and stress.

You may benefit from a stress management course. These are given at many hospitals from time to time at a nominal fee. You need to learn how to handle the stress in your life.

For a fuller explanation of both your heart conditions, I suggest you visit the web site of The American Heart Assn. at http://www.americanheart.org. Click on the Heart & Stroke A-Z Guide and look up PVC's and Sinus Tachycardia.

By the way, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to stop smoking.
