: Hi, I have read that itching skin can be related to liver problems. I have never had skin problems in the past, but over the last six months i have been bothered by extreme itching on my arms, legs and the soles of my feet. At first I thought it might be a soap allergy or some other food allergy, but then I had a liver function test and it came back abnormal. My GTLs were higher than expected. I am not overweight but the Dr thinks that perhaps I have a fatty liver and that is the cause. But he has tested for Hep C and B...and also for Autoimmune Hep, all tests were clear.
: This itching is so bad it keeps me awake at night, and i have scratched so much that I end up with grazes. I would love to be able to find a cause, but if I cant, at least something to relieve the itching!!! Is there anyone out there with any suggestions? Thanks, Karin

I have had good success with a product called Benadryl Gel to reduce itching. Any pharmacy would have it.

Benadryl is the allergy med of choice at the Mayo Clinic for those who have liver disease, although it should be used as infrequently as possible.

I hope this helps,

thanbey
