I am not familiar with what is availalbe in Australia. We also have proiducts in the States called Aveeno. If it is availalbe in Australia, you might want to try it.

Itching is common with liver disease and with HCV, there is no correlation with itching and blood levels. But, it could be caused by something else, so a specialist is a grand idea. I would appreciate a report if you find out something that could benefit others.

thanks,

thanbey

Hi Thaneby, thanks for the information, unfortunately that product isnt available here in Australia. I have tried a range of creams now, i even tried antihistimines, which take away the itching, but make me very sleepy. Ice works well, but i cant go to work with an ice pack on my arm, and the itching is keeping me awake at night! Do you think i should see a dermatologist? I havent ever had skin problems in the past. my dr did a liver function test and my GLT was in the 70s, although this is above the mormal range, he doesnt think it is high enough to be the cause of my itching...what do you think? Thanks Karin

: : : thanks for the information thanbey...at this point i am willing to try anything!!!!

: : : : : Hi, I have read that itching skin can be related to liver problems. I have never had skin problems in the past, but over the last six months i have been bothered by extreme itching on my arms, legs and the soles of my feet. At first I thought it might be a soap allergy or some other food allergy, but then I had a liver function test and it came back abnormal. My GTLs were higher than expected. I am not overweight but the Dr thinks that perhaps I have a fatty liver and that is the cause. But he has tested for Hep C and B...and also for Autoimmune Hep, all tests were clear.
: : : : : This itching is so bad it keeps me awake at night, and i have scratched so much that I end up with grazes. I would love to be able to find a cause, but if I cant, at least something to relieve the itching!!! Is there anyone out there with any suggestions? Thanks, Karin

: : : : I have had good success with a product called Benadryl Gel to reduce itching. Any pharmacy would have it.

: : : : Benadryl is the allergy med of choice at the Mayo Clinic for those who have liver disease, although it should be used as infrequently as possible.

: : : : I hope this helps,
