: I recently found out that my girlfriend is pregnant, I have hep c but my girlfriend doesn't. I would appreciate anyone sharing their knowledge on the possibility of me having hep c affecting the baby in some way, thank you.

Dear Joachim,

HCV can pass from mother to child, but only if the mother has the virus.

Please take extra precautions (condoms) during the pregnancy to ensure that your girlfriend does not acquire the virus during pregnancy.

The chances of this occuring are low, but for the sake of having a healthy child, I recommend doing what you can to be sure.

Your girlfriend should inform her doctor of your status so that he can monitor her periodically. The doctor needs to know.

I hope this helps,

thanbey
