: what can a catscan of the liver tell that a sonogram doesn't? No this isn't a riddle, just a question! I've already had the sonogram (was ok) and will go to Pittsburgh next month for biopsy, but the doctor still wants a catscan.....any idea what the Dr. is thinking? Does this seems like excessive testing?
The biopsy is the gold standard to diagnose damage from liver disease.
A catscan is a test that is unusual, but perhaps there is a reason that hasn't been explained.
Ask for an explaination from your doctor. That's the only person who knows what he is thinking.
I hope this helps,
