: please give me the answer? That's right, they use a needle. It's long and takes small sections of your liver to look at under the microscope. Some doctors give a local anesthetic and some don't. I have heard many advise to ask for a drug called versed. If you are nervous, ask for it. The biopsy takes about 10 minutes and you are home the same day. I have not heard of anyone needing stitches before. I jope this helps thanbey@hcop.org
