: Hi All,

: I tried the therapy (Ribavarin/Interferon) for about 2.5 months before giving up. I had to choose between continuing to work and treatment, due to the irritability the drug caused.

: I keep hearing the 30% cure rate being bandied about-but I never seem to hear from anyone who was actually cured (and stayed cured)? Anyone?

: Also, for folks that canít take the treatment, are there ANY viable options?

: Thanks!

: Gary

Gary,

I was on Interferon alone for six months, I responded well. Two months after treatment I relapsed. I was lucky enough to be accepted in a study with the Ribaviron/Interferon combo. I was on the Interferon/Ribaviron combo treatment for six months through UCLA Center for Digestive Disease. As of now I am Hepatitis "C" FREE! It has been two years and four months since I stopped treatment and there is still no sign of it in my blood. I am a Mother of 7 year old twins and treatment was difficult. During the first treatment I had to stop just short of the 6 month mark due to terrible depression associated with treatment, two weeks later I went back on and finished it out. The second time, they put me on an antidepressant and I did much better emotionally. There were several others in my group that were relapse patients trying the combo and seem to be viral free too. If you would consider taking an antidepressant while on treatment I think it might help. Talk with your Doctor. Good Luck!
