: Are there any long-terms problems using Rebetron/and or Interferon? I know the side-effects are terrible and most go away after treatment, but can either of these drugs create new-longlasting problems that you didn't even have before? thanks, robert

Yes, they can.

The rivbavirin, in particular, is considered a toxic drug. The warnings include opthalmic problems(eyes), heart problems, cancer, and diabetes.

The therapy can send your thyroid out of control. There are warnings about the effects on the reproductive system in women.

Now that this therapy has been on the market for a while and has been prescribed in large numbers, these after effects are now coming to light.

Infergen and Rebetron have nearly the same response rates. Infergen has no ribavirin. Roferon is also an option with no ribavirin.

If you decide to take this drug, have a thorough medical evaluation, including heart, thyroid, lung.

Do not smoke. If you are a smoker, quit prior to treatment. Do not drink any alcohol or drugs that your physician does not approve of. New information tells us that marijuana is associated with heart attacks. Do not use marijuana with this therapy.

I hope this helps.
