: My husband is going for a liver biopsy on Tuesday (he has Hep C). What should we expect? What condition is he going to be in afterwards?

: Technically, I know that is not supposed to drive, but really, do you think he will be able to afterwards? We kind of have a problem with our ride home. I'm just learning to drive, so I wouldn't be able to drive on a highway. We really don't have anyone that can drive us home. Car service would be astronomical
: ...over $50.

: Also, we'd like to know the details of the procedure. Thanks!!

Dear Tray,

Your husband will have a very short procudure in which a needle is quickly put into his liver and a small piece of liver is extracted for microscopic evaluation.

He will then have to lay on his side for a few hours and then will be allowed to go hone.

Depending on the physician, he will be given medication or not (he can request some if he wishes) or the doctor will use the ultrasound to locate the best place to take the specimen.

Bite the bullet and spend the $50.00. It is a lot cheaper than the results of an accident or any other problem that can be prevented by not driving.

You will kick yourself many times over if you take this risk and lose the bet. Most hospitals would not allow the patient to leave alone. I hope yours is one of them.

I hope this helps,

thanbey
