Hep C and alcohol use

My husband was dx with Hep C last summer. He has no apparent symptoms and
his HCV was discovered during routine blood work done to determine the cause of
a persistent itchy rash. The rash was later dx as allergic hives. He has
seen a hepaotogist at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham and was told that his blood
work was *good* and that he could continue to have an occasional beer without any
harm to his liver. His doc is very well-respected in our area and he was very
knowledgeable in HCV. My husband decided to give up alcohol at first, but has since begun
drinking 3-4 beers while socializing with his buddies a couple of times a week. After reading
various opinions about the effect of alcohol upon the liver I am very concerned, but cannot seem to
convince him that the alcohol is harmful to him. He is scheduled for a biopsy later this month. Are
there any research articles that I could show him indicating that alcohol could be harmful to him? If you could provide these for me I would be especially grateful.
