Dear Friedamae,

You are correct that there is no cure for hepatitis C. there are also no treaments that are bery effective at eradicating the virus from the body.

But, I must tell you that more people die with this disease than of it. this is because the disease is so slow moving. The symptoms you describe do occure, and can be treated with anti-depressants and analgesics.

If those with hepC do not drink any alcohol or smoke cigarettes, lead a healthy lifestyle, then the liklihood of ever progressing to cirrhosis is estimated at less than 7%.

the trick is to be diagnosed early and attend to the care of the liver early enough.

As to transmitting it to someone else, you are correct in your statement to watch blood to blood contact with another person, be careful to clean up your own blood and cover cuts and wounds.

Do not share razors, shavors, toothbrushes, or other personal items. Use condoms. Do not use (or allow the use of) a fetal monitor during the birth of a child.

Monitor the disease with a doctor's help.

Best wishes,

thanbey
