I was diagnosed about 2 years ago, and like most people, I was devestated. I thought my life would never be the same again. Well, life goes on!! The first year I would have break-outs every few months, but in the last year I *think* I've had two..... I say *think* because one possible outbreak was so mild that I'm not even sure it was an outbreak at all!!!

If you are diagnosed, learn everything you can - knowledge is power. Take into consideration your diet, your state of mind, your personal hygine, etc. It is amazing what tremendous effects you can create by changing minor things in your life. Eg; I used to eat peanut butter on my toast pretty much every day, but when I read that foods such as peanut butter and chocolate "might" encourage outbreaks, I cut back dramatically. Sure, I still eat peanut butter and chocolate, but I know that if i'm going to over-indulge, then I am "asking for herpes trouble", if you know what I mean!!

So, don't panic, your life is not over. It might be annoying, uncomfortable, etc.... but then again so are allergies, or the flu, or diabetes, or......... but we're still alive and kicking!!
