Thats the nicest thing I've heard in a long time. Thanks for the Thanks. I hate to keep posting the same stuff over and over again, but as time goes on, the messages that I post about where to get info ( like the gov site, and the antopia and mpwh sites ) get pushed to the bottom where nobody goes ( I typically look only at the current week for instance ). Eventually, a new person/victim of H ends up asking the same questions again. So sorry for the repetative posts, but, when someone like you says it helps, I think I'm doing the right thing.
I've had it for five years that I know of. I've narrowed it down to either my first wife, or a fellow female musician friend I was in a band with. I'm sure it was one of the two. My current wife has it also, but she never ( i mean absolutely never ) has had a single outbreak, which is very puzzling to me. More power to her though. Lucky her.
I supress my outbreaks with Dr. prescribed Valtrex. I use it only when I detect an outbreak coming on. For me specifically, I get a soreness in my left groin, halfway down my thigh, and typically areas of redness appear where the blisters will appear if I don't take the Valtrex. At the first sign of this, I take two 500 mg Valtrex tabs, once every twelve hours. By the sixth pill, or end of 3rd day. Everything including pain, and redness are completely gone. Everyone is different though.
It really isn't such a bad thing for me. More of an inconvenience. I live a full life as a full time dad of 2, computer professional by day, musician by night, long distance bicyclist when I can, etc. I think probably dating would be the hardest part, you know, the "I have to tell you something" conversation. The musician thing has helped me with that. If you can get up in front of strangers and play music, you can tell someone you're hoping to have a relationship with, honest and respectful things. That really is the reason this thing is spread. People are either unaware they have it, or they have a hard time about being honest with other about what they have.
Anyway, glad you found the info useful. It feels good to make someone feel good. Good luck, and if you every want to drop me a line about anything at all (even non-H stuff) , my e-mail address is attached to this message. There is only so much you can say about this nagging little disease you know.
