Hi. First - don't panic - stress is bad for you! :-)

You quite possibly have what I have which is known as essential hypertension. No one knows what causes it but it is probably genetic. You can try lowering your salt intake but I thought the latest info had the jury out on salt as a cuase of high BP - and if you are a sportsperson, as I am you can't afford a low salt diet. At times, especially in summer I crave salty things. That is your body telling you it NEEDS salt - listen. All these people that say you don't need extra salt are wrong in some cases, especially when it comes to endurance exercise in hot weather. People can die of hyponatraemia (low sodium).

I'd get a second opinion if all your doc has said is to cut out salt. You may need meds. If you don't like the thought of that try a herbal prep such as Hyperbalance maybe - I've asked for feedback on it and haven't had any yet though my herbalist tells me that she recognises the herbs in it and they seem reasonable. Of course you need to be sure that what's on the label is in the bottle and that's another issue.

Hope this helps.
