In Reply to: 25-white-female-High Blood Pressure- got it when I was 22 - please offer advice posted by T on December 09, 1999 at 12:50:49:

Hi there
I am now 29, and was diagnosed with high bp at 26. My dr. was also concerned with this (we are far too young to have this problem). I too am somewhat overweight, but also fairly active. When first diagnosed, the doc sent me for a huge number of tests. I had tons of bloodwork....thyroid levels, hormones, liver enzymes, etc. I also had an ECG, and a chest x-ray, along with a renal scan (to check for a blocked renal artery.) Amazingly enough, everything came back fine. I do have a history of this disease in my family, and I am told that I'm lucky I caught it so early. Now that it is being controlled by meds, I have a lower risk of all the bp related problems eg..strokes etc.

Hope this helps a bit
