Marc I take my BP with the same thing. It took me a while and still I have trouble with it, but my
mom who is a nurse said go with the very first sound you hear, just make sure you are actually
hearing a pulse, cause I thought I was and it was like 160 but I was hearig the movement of the blood pressure bulb.

I hope this helps.

Tammy: I have just started to monitor my own pressure.

: When I start letting the air out own the cuff I know that the upper reading should be noted as soon as I hear my
: pulse in my stethoscope.

: My problem is I start hearing a very faint pulse at around 150 but not until it gets down to 138 do i here a heavy pulse.

: Which pulse do I follow for an accurate reading, the first faint pulse or the booming second pulse?

: Please help.
