: Can someone tell me what is the best cholesterol medication to take? I want to talk to my doctor about this and want some of your input so I know what works and what does not. Thank you.
Hi
I can tell you from experience that Zocor, Lipitor, and Baycol gave me good results because they are all statin drugs whereas Niacin treatment did not. However, I experienced severe side effects from Lipitor such as muscle pain, back aches, etc. I took it for a little over 1 year before I figured out what was the problem. I orginally took Zocor for over a year with good results only to have my dr. switch me to Lipitor because I had what now we know was a pulled muscle. I tried Baycol short term with same side effects and Niacin for 2 mo. with blood retest that showed a rise in cholesterol totals and am now back on Zocor again. At last week's test, cholesterol is almost back to normal again after starting at 258 total-LDL normal and Tri. normal after 1 mo. of treatment. And best of all, no side effects!!!
Hope this info helps you.
