: perhaps googy - i am not sure
: dr. atkins (a cardiologist) has noted very strong indicators that his dietary
: recommendations lead to a lowering of chlesterol levels. A recent independent
: study confirmed it. i was more curious about using the supplements.
: much of what i have read shows that dietary intake of cholesterol only
: contributes about 1/5 (or less) to the total cholesterol measured in blood
: tests. the rest is made by the body. so i figured i'd go for where the
: 'biggest bang for the buck' is ... and i gotta believe that being 28 lbs thinner
: than i was when i started is good for me.
: good luck and happy weekend :-)

After losing 40 pounds on the Atkins diet over approximately 8 months, my total cholesterol dropped from 197 to 186. HDL went up, LDL and triglycerides went down. And I eat at least two dozen eggs per week. "Protein Power" by Dr. Eades explaines this. Approximatley 80% of the cholesterol in your bloodstream is produced by your liver, and going to a low carb diet will lower the livers production of cholesterol thereby lowering your total cholesterol for most people - there are always exceptions to the rule though.
