: Is there any connection? I am 53, normal weight, I eat very sensibly with very little fats, lots of fruit and veg., I take Metamucil for other problems, I get lots of exercise and am physically active at work. In general, I feel very well but my cholesterol is too high. There is no family history of this. I am going through menopause and wondered if there is any connection and will it level off as I get older or will it get worse. Any experience in this area?

Was wondering if you got any responses to your post. My mother was just told that she has high cholesterol going from 190 to 343 in just one year. She is 56 years old, and also going through menopause. The doctor has her taking Lipitor, but she is suffering from the side effects and worried about liver damage, etc. Her diet is high in fish, vegetables, and fiber, and low in fat. She thinks the high cholesterol is due to the menopause and decrease in production of estrogen. Have been looking for info. that may link the two - any luck or suggestions?
