: I heard that high cholesterol level can be a genetic trait that you get from your parents. The last time I talked to my parents my father's cholesterol was a bit high and the blood pressure too. My mother's is okay. I think about that now and it makes me wonder if there will be anything that people can do to fix themselves from getting genetically high cholesterol level. I mean if it's genetic in my family then when I have children they'll have high level too and then they're children too. I wish there was a way to avoid that.
hi there, yes the high cholesterol can be a character trait that you inherit from your parents. It doesn't automatically mean that you're going to have high level if your parents do. It's only a chance that increases with the genes. I would hope that genes like that can safely be faded out of our systems eventually as we learn more about genetics. There is a company called www.dna.com that is doing research to find genetic cures for heart disease and the director is having a live chat tonight to talk about the research. I enrolled in their project not too long ago. It makes me think that I'm helping out, doing my bit you know. I hope all is well with your parents. Good luck to you.
