: My reading is 315 and my doctor wants to start me on Lipitor but I also have hypothryoid and asthma. I eat a low fat diet. Are there any alternate ways to lower is reading? I really don't want to take Lipitor. Any information would be greatly appreciated

Hi Ellen, It's best that you get ahold of a good endocrynologist and have him settle your hypothyroidism first, since that can and usually does run up your numbers. Stay off of the lipid control drugs for now; they're a last resort. If you notice any very slight swelling at the base of your neck, DO IT NOW. It can be low iodine uptake that leads to goiters of different forms, or it can be as bad as papillary carcinoma, which is rapid and can take all in your neck including the larynx. Your doc doesn't seem to be very responsible if he's prescribing cholesterol control at this time. God bless and help you, BT
