: : : Hubby asked his dr. if he could try going off Lipitor for awhile and try to control cholesterol naturally. he is on 20 mg. since his artery cleaning 5 years ago. Cholesterol is now 149 and his stress test 3 weeks ago was perfect. Dr. said he could try, but thinks it will just go up anyway. When asked if he did have to go back on meds. could he be switched to Zocor, as friends claim less side effects, dr. said doseage would have to be doubled as Zocor is much less potent than Lipitor. If they have to double the doseage to match Lipitor, wouldn't that just cause the same ole side effects?

:
: : Don't know about Zocor but when they took me off pravachol and put me on lipitor which is much stronger my side effects seem to be half and some days less than before. I think it is how your body deals with it.

: Your right, everyone is different. My friend is being switched to Pravachol from Lipitor, as she was like me, couldn't handle Lipitor? I'm doing a little better on Baycol 4mg, but Lipitor 10 mg. was H*ll for me. Even though the 4 mg is suppose to be equivalent to 10 of Lipitor. Must be some ingredient that don't like me. Good luck, and good health.
I think each person's body reacts in a different way to these drugs. As for the difference between the good effectiveness between Zocor and Lipitor----10 mg. of Zocor took my cholesterol total to 185 and Lipitor at 10 mg. took it to 179. Both were totally doing their job, but one was trying to kill me off with side effects (ha) and that would be Lipitor. Zocor seems to not give me any or very slight side effect problems. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one also, but now I will know what is happening when I hurt alot. Incidentally, when I went off any drug and tried Niacin, my cholesterol went back up to where it had been previous to meds. So everyone has to try whatever and what works, go for it.
