: I know Jay and everyone recommend running but I can't do much running due to a bad knee from an accident. I have to stick with more low impact exercise. Walking is o.k. as are low impact aerobics etc. Would anything like that be as benificial as running or is it just the'working up a sweat' factor that is important

Any exercise is good for you. The activities you mentioned are all effective as well. Have you tried water aerobics? It's supposed to be just as effective as regular aerobics minus the impact on your joints. Also, step classes and light weights are good cardio activities.

I like a variety; racquetball, aerobics, step classes, light weights, and hiking.
