Here's another person (46 years) with high cholesterol. This years annual check-up found that my cholesterol was up to 317 (HDL 59/LDL 184). Doctor suggested focusing on exercise and diet to reduce -- had another test (fasting) total dropped to 291 (HDL 51/LDL215). Have been eating low-fat for 2 years now although I don't eat as much fruit or exercise as much as I should. Doctor put me on ZOCOR (20mg)-- its been almost a week, haven't felt any side effects, this is good. My questions -- what else can I be doing? Daily I take a multivitamin as recommended by a nutritionist, Vitamin E (400 mg), Calcium (400 mg) and Ginko. I'm resuming my yoga practice this week, and will walk with husband and kids 1-2x a week. I'm not very over weight-- maybe 10-15 pounds. Other than tightness in my neck (stress?) I feel very good. I just want to understand why my cholesterol went so high, get it under control and get off the medication. Those that have been through this give me some guidance...words of encouragement. Thanks! Oh, yeah -- maybe there's a link here. I recently left a job I held for 18 years. Lots of responsibility -- losts of stress. Now at home, working on my masters. Have been many personal changes the last 6 months.
