Due to a history of heart disease in my family I have been a health nut most of my life. I run 40 to 50 miles per week, have run 3 marathons and lift weights 3 times per week. I eat very little meat, no red meat and very little milk products. About 10 months ago I was diagnosed with relatively high cholesterol. Total 240 LDL 150 HDL 55. I was subsequently placed on 10 ml of lipitor which I have been taking until about 3 weeks ago. During those 10 months I could not begin to run at the levels that I did previously. My legs also felt heavy I would get out of breath much easier while exercising and finally I seemed to be much more fatigued all of the time. Three weeks ago and one week prior to my latest marathon I quit taking the drug. My energy almost immediately returned and I could run at the levels that I did previously. Does this sound like common side effects of the drug and what are my options as an alternative to Lipitor? I should note, that while on the drug my numbers improved significantly Total Cholersterol 155 LDL 85 HDL 55. I had a blood test just the other day and my Cholersterol once again is up 230, 140 55. I'm totally frustated because I think that I need to improve my numbers but can't seem to do it naturally and I don't want to feel lousy while taking drugs. Any suggestions?
