: I have tried to find literature on when you would treat with a statin drug but cannot find any definitive answers. Is it only if your cholesterol is high, or any of the others are high (LDL or Trig).
: I have a high cholest--284 and high LDL--191, but my HDL is good at 61 and my triglycerides good at 158 and the Cardiac Risk Factor (cholesterol/hdl) is 4.7 which is okay.
: I do NOT want to go on a statin drug but I would like to know when a statin is recommended. Thanks
My total cholesterol was 266 when they put me on Lipitor, and my bad C was 166. Everything else was ok. Took the numbers down to 168 total cholesterol after 5 weeks. Unfortuneately he was a new dr. and when I tried telling him how lousy I felt, made me feel like it was in my head. I've switched drs. and was off any meds. for 7 weeks, but my numbers went higher, 272 total, and 175 bad C. Now on Baycol and will have tests on 27th. Hopefully this new dr. will be a listener, as that is very important. Jo is right, if they won't talk and explain, get someone else. Good luck, and keep us posted.
