General Statement: Cholesterol lowering drugs, from the 70s to the present, have not shown results and have further confused the public.
Facts on cholesterol:
1. The average cholesterol levels, from a recent Framingham Studys was:

Total Chol. 201 mg/dl, Hdl 42.7 mg/dl, Trig. 163 mg/dl
Women, 1,633 individuals, age 55.0 yrs
Total Chol. 208 mg/dl, Hdl 55.6 mg/dl, Trig. 136 mg/dl
CHD prevalence in the above 2 groups was 10.2% for males & 3.5% for females.
Additional data from the study:
Women, 677 individuals, age 45.0 yrs (Premenopausal)
Total Chol. 191 mg/dl, Hdl 56 mg/dl, Trig. 111 mg/dl
Women, 1321 individuals, age 59.7 yrs (Postmenopausal)
Total Chol. 217 mg/dl, Hdl 55.9 mg/dl, Trig. 151 mg/dl
Based on the above why would any physician want to lower total cholesterol below the above normal values?
Additional information:
All studies, over thousands of people, done in the US and France have shown that tha incidence of colon cancer deaths increases exponentially when total cholesterol levels drop below 150 mg/dl
Based on the above why would any physician want to lower total cholesterol below normal values?
In our experience, in over 30 years of research on the subject, artifical lowering of total cholesterol creates more problems than it perportes to solve. From our studies, diet is directly linked to vascular disease. No eggs, No natural fat and excess carbohydrates is not the way to lower total cholesterol. If your HDL cholesterol is 20% or more of Total cholesterol, even at levels shown above, then don't try to lower your cholesterol level. High triglyceride levels reflect diet rich in carbohydrates. Education/diet-not cholesterol lowering drugs-is the answer to CHD!
