: My doctor's office called saying my total chol. reading was 246. I am f/43years old. He wants me to do a fasting test tomorrow. My readings have always been 225 or higher since I was in my 20s. Should I be concerned? My dad died from a heart attack at age 57. Thanks. Linda

Hi Linda,
Since nobody has answered, I'll kick in a bit. Wait until you get a blood lipid profile that includes Total Cholesterol, HDL's, LDL's, VLDL's and triglycerides. If you're not diabetic, you're not in much trouble...you are borderline however. Come back and post your numbers and we can work from there. There's a lot of good advice on this site that will keep you away from medications. Doctors are too quick with the lippytor, so until the next time you post, tell him "No thanks, not yet" if he tries to put you on it. Some people have to use it, but I doubt it in your case. God bless....
B. Travis
