My husband went today to his spepcialist who is worried about his cholesterol, LDL is at 161...
David has never TRIED to eat a low cholesterol diet and only found out in the last 2 weeks he HAS high
cholesterol...but the doctor wants to right away put him on Lipitor without giving us a chance to lower it
with diet first...I have heard only BAD results and side affects from others who have taken this drug and
we would just as soon he NOT take it unless absolutely necessary...the doctor also wants him to take
SIX (3-2x day)tablets of Fatty Omega3 fish oil, which I do not mind...it is natural at least...
At home, we DO eat low fat/choleserol diet as my son has it inherited from his dad's side of the family,
and at 10 years of age is at 200, my cholesterol levels are in the good range, every year I get tested...
However, my husband goes to a local cafe EVERY day for a "homemade"...aka..GREASY...full dinner/lunch...
enough calories and fat for the entire FAMILY for the entire DAY...*L*...he has gained 30 pounds since
he moved here in August...and when he was living at home (we have only been married since August),
his mom fried alot of foods and stuff that was not quite so cholesterol conscience...so he never was aware
he had high cholesterol or has done nothing about it until now...
he is now trying to eat more salads and fresh fruits and veggies for a lunch and drink more water, but then,
he should limit his liquid intake as well because of his Alport's Syndrom (see link below for more info on that)...
The doctor insists he take this Lipitor, but even reading the brochure it says to only take it after you have
UNSUCESSFULLY tried to lower cholesterol through diet...we have not been given that chance, and mentioned
that to the doctor, but he was adamant about taking it...we would like to "go against doctor's orders" on
this one...at least for the 2 months til the next visit and see what his levels are then...
has anyone else been on Lipitor or similar and can you give us some advice as to which way to go with this...
Thank you...
