: Scared to Death,
: You do not mention if you had protected (with a condom) or unprotected (without a condom) intercourse. Obviously, if you use a condom your chances of catching HIV or other STDs are virtually eliminated.
: I think the pain in your groin is likely to be a groin strain given the fact it worsens on exertion. With regard to your swollen gland, glands can swell up for hundreds of reasons with HIV being just one.
: It is impossible to judge whether or not you have caught HIV from your intercourse by the symptoms you have given, and the only way to find out for sure is to take a test. It was almost five months ago so a test now would be pretty accurate. A six month test is conclusive.
: Symptoms of HIV encountered during Acute Retroviral Syndrome (ARS) are normally:
: - Fever
: - Night Sweats
: - Rash
: - Sore throat
: - Diarrhea
: These symptoms are normally encountered between three and six weeks of contracting the virus and occasionally take up to six months. However, some people have no symptoms whatsoever (around 30%) and others will only have some (or different) symptoms from the above. Some will suffer greatly during ARS, some people will barely notice it. The fact is, HIV infection manifests itself differently in every sufferer.
: However, as your intercourse did only last one and a half minutes, chances of catching HIV are relatively small.
: Hope this helps.
: Best wishes,
: Rachael
: : As stupid as I was, last July 29, I had sexual intercourse. It has worried me to death and I am scared of what I could have got.
: : I am a soccer player, so when my groin started hurting, I assumed that it was just a common injury. I woke up one morning and could feel the pain. The only thing is that there is still pain. There is only pain when I try and run, but I am not sure if it is just becuase of soccer.
: : Also my left gland just below my jaw is swollen and hurts a little bit. Does that have anything to do with the situation.
: : I did not ejaculate in her or in her mouth. I did not have oral sex with her either. As embarassing as it is, it only took about a minute and a half. Please help. Do I have anything to worry about? When would signs of HIV or any other STD's start to show signs?
Well, to comment on the above... The symtoms of HIV vary so much that I wouldn't rely on a textbook example at all. I NEVER experienced ANY of the above symptoms. Therefore, I would never advise anyone to mark them as a benchmark for evaluating their state of health.
In any case, unprotected intercourse warrants an HIV test. There should be no doubts in your mind as to whether to take it or not. The chances of your getting infected are minimal but not zero.
Please do not dwell on your 'symptoms' because, as I said, unprotected sexual intercourse automatically warrant a test.
