: I have a very close friend with whom I'm obv very comfortable with. My friend has recently informed me that they have hiv. Their t count is completely normal and viral load is undetectable. I have kissed my friend numerous times including after finding out about the hiv. I have braces. I dont have any open wounds that I'm aware of, no bleeding or anything like that, but obv braces are always going to maintain some type of abrassion inside the patients mouth. I'm pretty aware of hiv information and realize that there have been no proven case aside from highly rare exceptions where people contract hiv from kissing, however, are my changes GREATLY increased due to the fact of me having braces? or is the impact negligible? Again I have no oepn sores or bleeding cuts etc that I'm aware of.

: (obv getting tested is the ultimate active solution to find an answer, I'm aware of this)

: Thanks for the info!

To contrct HIV through kissing, BOTH partners must have open sores or bleeding gums in their mouth. I never wore braces myself but understand that they can cause some sort of cuts on the soft gum surfaces. Obviously, some people will have more cuts than the others. What I can suggest is you talking to your dentist, so that he / she could access your chances and frequency of getting serious sores. In any case, the sores must be fresh and bleeding to be dangerous.
