: I was diagnosed last December with this disease after surgical removal of a large tumor. I have been on thyroid hormore for 9 months now, with adjustments in dosage. I just read some messages concerning pregancy and this disease and the possibility of children being retarded. I have had four children and they all have very high IQ's. I didn't know about the possibility of retardation and thought some of you would like to know that this didn't happen to my children.
Because they were likely born before the onset of hasimoto's thyroiditis. A Friend of mine had 3 children prior to her becoming hypothyroid, all 3 healthy. The last child was born without a skull, after being diagnosed. Myself, I had 1 child prior, healthy, and 2 children after , both with significant birth defects. On with cranio facial deformities, and one with dyspraxia (brain damage). I didn't know I was ill before they were conceived.
