WG is another autoimmune disease which usually starts
in the upper airways, but frequently involves lungs
and kidneys. It can involve virtually any organ.
It is invariably fatal unless treated.

WG is diagnosed by cANCA, pANCA, anti-PR-3, anti-MPO,
SED rate, and C reactive protein. Some with WG test
negative to the ANCAs and anti-PR-3/MPO. Biopsies are
used to confirm the diagnosis when possible.

It is treated usually by steroids and immunosuppressives.

Info on WG is on the Wegener's Granulomatosis Support
Group web page at www.wgsg.org (non-profit). One can
subscribe (free) to an e-mail group at
http://www.weareb.org/WG/howto.html#usage
which has about 280 members.

A call to 800-277-9474 will get packets of info on
request for patients and for physicians.
