My six year old daughter has suffered from autoimmune hemolytic anemia since she was nine months old.
Most of this time she has been on prednisone. She also takes 6mp. Last June,
her blood counts became normal. She was totally off prednisone. In November she ended
the 6 mp. Her blood count was normal at the end of February. Her coombs in January was 1+.
It had been 4+. Then two weeks ago she had a horrible recurrence. Steroids would not work. She had
to have a transfusion. Her hb. was 2.4. She is doing better now, back on steroids and 6mp but
they are strongly urging us to get a spleenectomy. I would like to hear from anyone who has had
a spleenectomy, especially children.
