systemic corticosteroids---side effects

A friend of mine was given prednisone after an injury and had taken it
for a couple of months. After a while she experienced a thinning of her
skin which has persisted for several months now after discontinuing the drug.
My question is Will her skin ever thicken again and begin to heal at the rate
it had before? She is in her early thirties and otherwise very healthy. Her
blood tests were all normal and the doctors say that her body should regenerate.
But you know how doctors are about drugs..."everything's safe! Side-effects will
pass!"
Anyone have a comment on this?
