My son is 8 years old. At 3 months of age he survived a heart transplant...and has been on immunosuppressant drugs his whole life. Last month in his routine lab work, his platelet count was 2! He was hospitalized and treated with 1 IVIG treatment, went home with a count of 80 something, went back for recheck back down to 3!! Went back in hospital, another IVIG, nothing. Now he is home on 50 mg of prednisone a day. Went up to 86 and yesterday back down to 20!! This is so frustrating, I don't understand. Especially since his immune system is already suppressed with fk506 & immuran! How can his body be doing this? We had a bone marrow test done, came back ok, thank God. I really need support and info...help please.
