: Fifth disease if a fairly common viral infection among pre-school children. There isn't much you can do to prevent it. Like many viral illnesses, the virus is being shed before you notice symptoms. There is a blood test to determine if you have it, but it makes no difference in treatment or outcome.

: Treatment is symptomatic. The only time this is an issue is if a woman in her first trimester gets it. Like many viral illnesses, it can cause birth defects. However, most people have had it and are immune.

: If you do a web search using "fifth disease" I'm sure you will come up with something

: : This skin rash is going around my childs school, and he now appears to have it, where do I go for info on the web, OR does anyone know about it? Treatment, seriousness, etc etc

When is your child contagous? before or after they have broken out with the rash?
