: I may have PCOS. I am a twenty-eight year old African-American woman. I have irregular periods (my last cycle was November, 1999). I have never been pregnant. My metabolic rate has slowed, and I have gained weight, even though I am physically active. Sometimes I feel aches in my pelvic bones. My family has a history of irregular periods, miscarriages, diabetes, and underactive thyroids. Can anyone relate?
I would check it out with a doctor, preferably a gynae consultant, as I found some GP's do not recognise the symptoms of PCOS. You do seem to have some of the many symptoms that PCOS displays. Continual weight gain, even though you exercise regularly and the irregular periods.
There are medications out there. Once I have decided to stop having children my doctor suggested I should stay on a combination contreceptive pill.
