: My husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost two years now. We haven't gone to doctors or anything yet, but I was wondering at what point after trying for so long should you consult with a medical professional? And, what are the steps that the dr would prescribe, what kind of things(tests) would need to be done? I really just don't know where to start... would someone please be able to give me some advice??? Thanks!
My doctors had us try for one year before they actually considered us as having "infertility challenges". I would suggest you get a referral to a Reproductive Endocrinologist in your area when you do decide to see a doctor because they are typically the most knowledgeable and will not waste time. The first types of tests they will likely run are 1) routine blood tests on both of you, 2) semen analysis on hubby, 3) Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) on you to check if your tubes are healthy and open. Of course, they will want to go over a complete medical history with both of you before they do any of these, and then they'll make a decision about tests based on any indicators you may have from your past. Hope this helps. Good luck.
